Designed to prevent overheating in motors, the 7AM thermal protector offers the best attributes of one shot protectors and auto reset protectors in a single package. The 7AM thermal protector, once activated in a fault condition, maintains its open state until power is removed. No reset button here-simply remove power and the device will cool and reset. This inherent design feature adds an extra level of security over automatic reset devices of any type. It is the reliable, cost effective solution for numerous applications.

Each 7AM thermal protector rating has a bimetal disc designed and manufactured for the specific temperature rating. Each individual device is then calibrated and checked for opening temperature. This results in precise operating characteristics necessary to achieve consistent, reliable performance over the required life cycle.

In order to achieve optimum heat transfer from the protected medium or ambient to the thermostat, the 7AM thermal protector has been designed with the case connected to the bimetallic disc. This feature makes it necessary to electrically insulate the 7AM thermal protector from the mounting surface. Typically, this is accomplished with a Mylar sleeve marked with the part number. Custom markings and other sleeve materials can also be provided.

The operating principle of the 7AM thermal protector is both simple and effective. At the heart of the protector is a bimetal snapation disc. When the temperature of this disc reaches its precalibrated temperature it snaps open, resulting in an open circuit. This temperature is reached during a fault condition, caused by either an increase in ambient temperature, in increase in current flowing thru the disc, or a combination of both. After the 7AM thermal protector breaks the circuit, the system cools and the 7AM thermal protector automatically resets allowing power to be restored in the circuit.
